Ingrid Walsh 39, from Ireland has successfully sued the Health and Safety Executive for mismanagement of her epilepsy.

Ingrid who was born with spina bifida suffered a seizure whilst in Waterford Regional Hospital in September 2005. The claimant stated there was a delay in recognising the seizure and it was a further 25 minutes before a doctor attended the ward to administer the correct medication.

Ms Walsh remained unconscious for three days and during that time had a several more fits. She was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

As a result of the medical negligence Ingrid claims she suffered permanent brain damage leading to impaired learning ability and memory loss.

Even though Ms Walsh had spina bifida, she still lead a normal life. She studied at Waterford Institute of Technology, City and Guilds and FAS. She also worked as a secretary for her fathers company.

Ingrid has been awarded 2.5 million Euros for the claim.
