Fifty one year old Sandra Toner was walking her Irish wolfhound along the Parklands area of Essex at around 5.20pm on Thursday 21st January when she was hit by a Nissan Navara 4×4.
The driver failed to stop at the scene and later crashed into metal railings outside a school on Upshire Road.
The fifty six year old motorist was taken to hospital where he was treated for personal injuries. He remains in a stable condition.
Ms Toner unfortunately died from her injuries.
Police are appealing for witnesses to pedestrian accident to come forward.
