US football player injured in fatal car accident

A 22 year old soccer play from America has been injured in a serious car crash accident in the early hours of Tuesday 13th October. Charlie Davies, who had been drafted in to the US national team this year, was a passenger in the road traffic accident on the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Alexandria, Virginia.

The striker suffered serious injuries in the accident and required several hours of extensive surgery. His injuries included a lacerated bladder, a fractured tibia, elbow and femur, and several facial injuries. Although in a serious condition, it is not thought that his injuries are life-threatening.

According to reports from a US Soccer Federation spokesperson, it is not clear at present whether the leg injuries suffered by Charlie Davies will affect his soccer career.

The accident happened at about 3:15am whilst Davies was in a car with two other people. One of which was a 22 year old named Ashley J Roberta, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the tragic car accident.

David Schoisser, the police sergeant investigating the accident, has stated that they are currently unsure whether the accident was caused by excessive speed or whether any alcohol was involved. The police are also unsure as to who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.
