Two die in ambulance collision

A man and a child have been killed after a road traffic accident involving an ambulance.

The accident happened on the A619 Baslow Road, Chesterfield, Derbyshire at around 3pm on Saturday 14th November. The ambulance was transporting a patient to hospital but was not in emergency conditions when the incident occurred.

The male passenger of the Ford Escort suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The 10 year old boy later died in hospital following his injuries.

A spokesperson for East Midland Ambulance Service said “We have no reason to think that the driver of our vehicle was at fault. Police are currently investigating the accident and so we are unable to comment further. We would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the relatives and friends of those involved at this very sad time.”

Police are appealing for witnesses of this tragic car accident to come forward with any information.
