Five year old Gabby Grady was killed after the car she was traveling in careered off the road and into an icy river. Her older brother Ryan managed to escape from the car and was plucked from the river by police. Gabby unfortunately died in hospital three days later after being trapped for two hours in the vehicle which had been driven by her father Chris.
The forty one year old father of no fixed address is being held in custody for attempted murder although is is thought the charges will be amended to murder.
The fatal car accident happened on the morning of Thursday 11th February, witnesses claim they saw Grady’s car hurtling through a field before driving into the river Avon.
Local police had to call in the diving team from Avon and Somerset because of the potential risk to their officers.
The divers arrived around an hour and a half later and it took just 12 minutes to rescue the five year old from the submerged Vauxhall car. Gabby was taken to Birmingham Hospital where she later died.
