Four workers have been injured after a toxic cloud escaped from the Cristal Global plant in North East Lincolnshire.
The Stallingborough based company situated on the banks of the River Humber specialize in making titanium based products. The toxic cloud which contained titanium tetrachloride escaped after an explosion of a chemical vessel within the factory.
One of the four men injured from the cloud has been transferred to a specialist burns unit at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield where he remains in a serious condition. The other three men are being treated in Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The Coastguard issued a a ‘no sail’ order following the events at Cristal Global which remained in place for several hours. Emergency crews were called to the factory where they used a blanket of foam to control the chemical spillage.
Cristal Global are investigating the work accident along with the Health & Safety Executive.
