A crewman on board the vessel Ocean Spray was taken to hospital after being crushed by the netting mechanism.

The work accident took place on Wednesday 9th December off the coast of Newlyn, Cornwall. The man became caught in the netting machine which slammed him against the vessel and sent him overboard. The sailor incurred crush injuries to his legs and waist.

Due to the stormy weather conditions the Air Ambulance services were unable to transfer him to hospital. The Penlee lifeboat escorted the fishing boat to shore where the injured man was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske.

The Health and Safety Executive will be called in to investigate the incident.
