A police officer bitten by a dog used his Taser gun to control the “violent animal”.
Around 18 police officers were called to an incident on Bonville Road on Wednesday 11th November where it was reported men were fighting with baseball bats.
The police tried to break up the fight but one was attacked by a Staffordshire bull terrier. The dog bit the officer on the leg to which the officer took his Taser gun and used it on the dog.
The police officer was taken to hospital for treatment on his leg whilst the dog was returned to his owner with no treatment needed.
It is the first incident of a dog being tasered since the guns were introduced in 2005. A spokeswomen for Devon and Cornwall Police said it is legal to use the Taser gun on an animal.
Three men were arrested at the scene, one in connection with injuries to a police officer.
