A 52 year old man from Edlington near Doncaster has been killed in an accident at work on Monday 7th December.
Owners of the mine Hargreaves Services initially denied reports that Mr Fisher had fallen down a shaft from ground level and they refused to comment on the incident whilst Police and the Health and Safety Executive were investigating.
Jackie Fisher had been working in a mine 940 meters below ground level in Maltby Colliery. It appears Mr Fisher had fallen from a working platform in the shaft.
Specialist mine rescue teams were amongst the emergency services called to the scene on Monday. It is thought another worker was also injured in the accident, however Hargreaves insist only a witness to the incident was involved and they are being treated for shock.
A post mortem examination on Mr Fisher body is due to be carried out soon.
