Two men from Perth suffered serious leg injuries following a freak accident whilst hunting.

The men both 57 years old were hunting for geese near Perth when a gun was accidentally discharged at their legs.

The hunting group had organised the outing with the land owner who is happy for such events to take place. The group ever only come away with a few geese as it is illegal to sell wild goose.

A local man told how popular the past time was is the area. Talking of the guns and bullets used for the sport he said: “Generally they will use 12 bores but they will have a heavy load because geese are relatively difficult to bring down.”

“If you were to use the same sort of shot as for pheasants or rabbits, all you would do would be injure them and they would fly off and die somewhere else.”

“Put it this way, I wouldn’t want to be close by when one of them goes off. If the shot is heavy enough to go through a goose, you can be sure it will do damage whatever it hits, especially at close range.”

Ambulance services and trauma teams attended the scene and treated the injured men.

Police have confirmed the incident was an accident.
