An Arbroath fisherman has died after falling from his boat on 18th November. Raymond Davidson 52, was on board the three crew fishing boat named Optik owned by Anthony Iverson 62.
The crew had been fishing for lobster and crayfish at about 1.20pm in the North Sea when the accident happened. Davidson had been shooting creels from the deck when he fell overboard.
The crew including Iverson struggled to recover Davidson from the waves but eventually after spending 5 minutes in the water he was hauled back on to the boat unconscious.
One crew member began CPR whilst the other called the coastguard for assistance.
Forth Coastguard launched an emergency operation to include RNLI lifeboat at Arbroath and and RAF rescue helicopter from Boulmer, Northumberland.
A Tayside Police spokesperson confirmed late last night that a 52-year-old man had died after falling overboard. He said: “His colleague immediately alerted nearby fishing boats who attended in the area to assist the male. The male was pulled aboard and with the assistance of the coastguard he was subsequently airlifted to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee where sadly he later died.”
It is believed Davidson was not wearing a life jacket.
