An employee of Allied Glass Containers was seriously injured after he fell through a gap of a mezzanine floor that had been urgently erected due to maintenance issues at the factory.
The employee who has not been named fell 6ft onto the concrete floor below in the work accident in January last year. He suffered fractures to his back and skull and also bruising to his kidneys and brain.
Allied Glass Containers have been ordered to pay £10,000 and £3,173 in costs after it was discovered that a risk assessment for the temporary mezzanine floor had not been carried out. They pleaded guilty to breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) in Leeds Magistrates Court.
