Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious road traffic accident that took place on the A43 between Weldon and Duddington on Thursday 3rd September 09.

The accident involving an articulated goods lorry and a blue Iveco van happened at around 3.30pm near the Laxton junction. The 54 year old driver of the HGV is said to have minor injury’s from the collision, however the van driver who had suffered serious injuries was trapped for two and half hours before fire fighters could cut him free. Both men were taken to Peterborough District Hospital.

Collision investigator PC Andy Jeavons said “The van was travelling in the direction of Stamford and the goods vehicle was going in the direction of Corby. For some reason, the van appears to have left the road and then rejoined the carriageway before being struck by the vehicle coming in the opposite direction. The driver of the lorry has been taken to hospital in Peterborough and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.”

Police closed the road from the Weldon roundabout to Laxton Hall and re-opened it at around 9.20pm.

Police are urging any witnesses of this car accident to come forward as soon as possible.
