A boy of six is in hospital awaiting surgery after a vicious dog attack. The incident happened on Thursday 29th October at around 1.40pm. The boy was walking with his mother along Crasswell Street near Portsmouth city centre when the dog jumped up and bit the youngster. He was taken to Queen Alexander Hospital, Cosham were he will receive facial surgery.

PC Mark Walsh said: ‘The young boy has been left with serious facial injuries that will require reconstructive surgery.

‘The dog has been located and this incident is currently under investigation, and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to contact police as soon as possible.

‘This incident was very shocking and it is vital we gather all available information.’

Cllr Margaret Foster told The News she was shocked to hear about the incident.

She said: ‘It’s terrible. I’m shocked to hear about this, a dog jumping up and biting a child on the face.

‘I’m a dog owner myself and I hate to hear about something like this.
‘I send my best wishes to the family and little boy and let’s hope the child isn’t scarred for life by this.

‘It must be very traumatic for such a young boy and I hope he gets over it quickly.’
